Amerigo Resources Ltd: Hot Stock

Amerigo Resources Ltd (TSX: ARG) (OTCQX: ARREF) shares are on a roll in 2026, up more than 70% year to date to its current price of C$7.63. And despite a 250% stock price surge over the past 52 weeks, this C$1.2 billion market cap copper play could continue to climb.

Amerigo isn’t a traditional copper miner. The company produces copper and molybdenum from waste material from Codelco’s El Teniente mine in Chile. It is the world’s largest underground copper mine.

By partnering with state-owned Codelco, Amerigo Resources assumes no exploration or resource replacement risk. The company also has low sustaining capital expenditures and more stable operating margins.

Since 2003, Amerigo Resources has recovered more than 1 billion pounds of copper from its operations. During the first half of 2026, the company’s cash cost was just US$1.74 per pound.

In its full year 2025, Amerigo reported a profit of US$34.4 million on revenue of US$227.3 million. This compares to a profit of US$19.2 million on revenue of US$192.8 million in 2024.

For investors, Amerigo Resources is more than just a capital appreciation opportunity for future copper demand. The  company also pays a regular quarterly dividend of $0.04 per share, with its stock currently yielding 2.1% annually.

Plus, it has paid what it calls “performance” dividends from its cash surplus. Most recently, the company has returned to shareholders $0.05, $0.16, and $0.18 per share in December 2025, April 2026, and July 2026, respectively. This is on top of its regular quarterly dividend. Thus, Amerigo says the “total yield” on its stock was 7.5% as of August 2026.

Amerigo Resources has also repurchased 27.6 million of its own shares since 2021. All in all, the company has positioned itself as a shareholder-friendly way to benefit from higher expected future copper demand.
